Sheps beat Dodgers 7-2, win 5 of last 6!

The So-Cal Shepherds beat the East LA Dodgers by the score of 7-2 on Sunday moving them to 9-6 on the season. For the Sheps, this is their fifth win in six games, turning it around after their four game losing streak in late June. 

The Sheps would strike first in the bottom half of the first as Aaron Zubiate scored from third on a Wild Pitch before the East LA Dodgers would get out of the threat with an inning ending double play.

A leadoff walk in the second came around to score for the Sheps after a throw from the Dodger shortstop got by the first baseman to make it 2-0. 

The Sheps would extend their lead with three in the third as they scored in each of their first three innings. It started with a lead off single and a walk for the Sheps before Shane Poe cleared the bases and scored two with a double. 

Brenden Coffindaffer was able to hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another and make it 5-0 before the Dodgers were able to get out of the inning. 

The Dodgers were able to get one back in the fourth but the Sheps were cruising towards the win as six different pitchers came in and gave up two runs on two hits and struck out eleven as a group. 

The Shepherds would add on in the bottom of the eighth with a Raul Soto Romero two-RBI single to give closer Cameron Kelly some insurance runs heading into the ninth. Kelly would give up one run to the Dodgers before earning the 7-2  victory for the Sheps. 

The Shepherds will look to continue their winning ways with a double header against the Arroyo seco sentinels after the all star break on July 16th at Jackie Robinson Park. Sheps win barnburner 12-8

The So-Cal shepherds won a barnburner by the score of 12-8 at Citrus College against the Inland Valley Bucs. Down 8-3 in the fifth, the Sheps scored nine unanswered runs in two innings to take the lead and ultimately the win to move the record to 8-6. 

The bats started out hot in today's game as a leadoff walk from Aaron Zubiate was followed by back to back singles from Shane Poe and Drew Salyers to load the bases for the Sheps with no outs. The Sheps would only get one run from the opportunity as a Sac fly from JP Hefft would score one before two straight fly-outs would get the Buccaneers out of the jam as the Sheps took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first. 

The Inland Valley Bucs would respond in the bottom of the second as two RBI singles and a passed ball would score three as they took the lead 3-1. 

However, The Buccaneers were not done in the inning as a two out, three-run home run would give the Bucs a six run inning and break the game wide open with a 6-1 lead going into the third inning. 

A Two-run double for the Shepherds in the very next inning cut the lead to three as Brenden Coffindaffer was able to drive in two and get his team back into the game making it 6-3. 

The Bucs would extend their lead with two runs in the fourth to make it 8-3 before the Sheps came up to bat in the fifth. 

In the fifth, the Sheps were able to get the first three runners on base before another bases loaded double for Brenden Coffindaffer brought in his third and fourth RBI’s of the game. Andrew White would bring another in as the Sheps scored three to get back in this game with a score of 6-8.

The inning was not over as a two-run home run over the left field fence from Alex Laureano tied the game at eight.  KJ Moo-Young would break the tie just two batters later as a single up the middle would get by the centerfielder and roll to the wall, allowing Sam Rudd to score as well as Moo-Young who came all the way around to score on the inside-the park home run.  

A seven run inning for the Sheps gave them the lead and brought the score to 10-8. 

The Sheps would score two more in the sixth to give them some insurance runs and extend their lead to four at 12-8 as the Shepherds scored nine unanswered runs.

Charlie Pierce came into the game in the fourth and gave up two runs in his first inning before settling in and shutting the Bucs down in the next four innings including eight strikeouts. 

Cameron Kelley would come in and close out the 12-8 win to get his third save of the year and give the Sheps back-to-back wins.

Sheps get huge win over Sentinels 7-5

The So-Cal Shepherds get back over .500 with a win over the Arroyo Seco Sentinels with a score of 7-5. The win brings the Sheps record to 6-5 and moves their home record to 5-2. 

The Shepherds got the scoring started early in the bottom half of the first after Drew Salyers got his team leading 9th RBI with a single to drive in Aaron Zubiate. Rhett Stein came up behind him with a two RBI single to score both Drew Salyers and Shane Poe and give the Sheps the 3-0 lead. 

The Sentinels answered right back with three of their own as an RBI walk, single and sac fly scored three to immediately tie it up in the top of the second. 

Sam Mueller would come into the game in the top of the seventh and pitch 4 ⅔ innings giving up two runs on two hits and earn the win as the Sheps would take the lead before coming out of the game. 

The Sheps would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Andrew Lujan would single in KJ Moo-Young to set the stage for JP Hefft to single in another run and give the Sheps a 5-3 lead.

The Sentinels would answer right back again, scoring two in the top of the sixth to immediately tie the ballgame up at five a piece. 

This time was different however as the Sheps would answer the sheps with a RBI single by KJ Moo-Young before Moo-Young was able to score on a fielder's choice after stealing third after getting his second stolen base of the game. 

That would be the final score of the game as Cameron Kelly would come in and close out the game to get his third save of the year and earn the 7-5 win.

Mistakes and missed opportunities lead to Sheps loss

The So-Cal Shepherds fell to the Ventura County pirates on Tuesday by the score of 11-4. This loss brings the Shepherds record to 6-6 while the pirates are now 9-3 on the year. 

The Shepherds got the scoring started in the second inning as a Brandon Adams fielder's choice scored JP Hefft before the Pirates responded in the top of the third with two runs of their own to take the lead 2-1. 

The Sheps would answer back and retake the lead in the bottom of the third as Shane Poe and Andrew Lujan both get RBI doubles before Rhett Stein singles in Lujan to earn the insurance run and take back the 4-2 lead. 

The Ventura County Pirates would answer right back on an RBI single and an error that scored a run to tie the game up at four. 

Errors would be the downfall for the Sheps in the game as they commited eight errors leading to four unearned runs for the Pirates who would gain the lead on an RBI double in the fifth and wouldn't give up the lead again. 

The Pirates would score two more in the seventh, three in the eighth and one more in the ninth to make the final score 11-4 and score nine unanswered runs. 

The Shepherds had chances to score after the third but were unable to cash in the runners as they had bases loaded with no outs twice and failed to score both times. In both instances, a ground ball was hit before the Pirates threw it home and then to first to turn the double play before recording the final out of the inning on the next batter.

Sheps win close one 3-2

The So-Cal Shepherds won a close one at La Habra by the score of 3-2 against the East LA Dodgers. The Sheps got back over .500 with the win and gained momentum going into the July 4th break before playing three games the next three days. 

The Dodgers opened the scoring after three straight singles to start the inning and scored a run before Starter Ritter Steinmann worked out of the jam to allow the single run in the inning.

Ritter would settle in and wouldn't give up another run as a pitchers' duel broke out in La Habra. Ritter threw six innings giving up three hits and one run on five walks and five strikeouts. 

On the other side, Noe Novella for the Dodgers threw 5 ⅓ without allowing a hit but giving up a run on five walks and eight strikeouts.

The Shepherds would get a run in the fourth without a hit as Aaron Zubiate earned a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on an error as he would go on to score on a ground out to second. 

The Sheps would get their first hit in the seventh as Drew Salyers hit a single to advance JP Hefft and make it first and second with no outs. The Sheps would take the lead in the inning as Brenden Coffindaffer would single in a run before Brandon Adams hit a Sacrifice fly to score an insurance run and make the score 3-1 going into the eighth inning. 

Cameron Kelley would come into the game in the Ninth inning to close it out, he gave up a solo homerun but was able to shut the Dodgers down and get his second save of the year. 

Those two singles in the seventh were the only two hits by the Sheps in the game as they were out hit five to two but still got the win with a score of 3-2.

Sheps end skid with 4-2 win

The So-Cal Shepherds end their losing streak and win by the score of 4-2 against the Inland Valley Bucs. The win at Cal Poly Pomona brought the Sheps back to .500 on the year with a 5-5 record as they go into almost a week off of games going into camp this week. 

The Shepherds wanted to end the skid that they've been in and showed that by scoring early. A walk and two doubles plated two in the top of the first as Aaron Zubiate shot a ball into the right-center field gap to earn the two RBI’s and put the Sheps up 2-0. 

The lead was their first since the second inning of their Thursday game against the East LA Dodgers.  

The Buccaneers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and threatened to tie the game but KJ Moo-Young threw out a runner at home from center field to keep the lead for the Shepherds with a 2-1 score.  

The Sheps were caught up in their second straight pitchers duel as starting pitcher Andrew white went 5 innings, giving up five hits, one run with zero earned and four strikeouts. On the other side, Starting pitcher for the Bucs Anthony Silvas also threw five, only giving up the two runs in the first inning and striking out 8.

The Shepherds would find a way to extend their lead with a triple from Aaron Zubiate to score a runner from first before Brenden Coffindaffer hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1 in the sixth. 

The Bucs responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Shepherd's lead down to two and make it a 4-2 ballgame with three innings left.

The Bucs threatened to tie it in the bottom of the ninth with runners on second and third with one out but Ritter Steinmann was able to get back-to-back outs to shut the door and end the game with a final score of 4-2. 

The Shepherds will be back in action July 3rd against the East LA Dodgers at home at 4:00 PM. Shepherds Lose Pitching Duel 2-0

The Shepherds lose a tough pitchers duel to the Ventura County Pirates by the score of 2-0. This gives the Shepherds their fourth loss in a row and moves their record below .500 to 4-5 as they finish their road trip tomorrow. 

Both starting pitchers dominated early in this game as the Shepherds had just three runners on with two walks and one hit in the first four innings. Starter Jackson LoBianco followed suit as he allowed four baserunners through four innings with two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. 

Catcher Rhett Stein helped LoBianco by cutting his baserunners in half, throwing two runners out trying to steal second in the first four innings. 

Jackson Lobianco would end the day with six innings pitched with four hits, three strikeouts and 1 earned run. 

The Pirates Broke the deadlock in the bottom of the 6th as the leadoff batter got on base with a bunt single and a throwing error allowing him to get to second. The next two batters would bunt the runner over and then bunt him in to give them the 1-0 lead, manufacturing the run in this pitchers duel. 

The Pirates padded their lead the next inning with a homerun on a hanging breaking ball over the left field fence, extending the lead to 2-0 which seemed insurmountable the way the game was going in the bottom of the 7th.

That lead would turn out to be the final score as the Shepherds could not find a way to get runners across the plate as they got shut out for the first time this season.

Sheps fall to Sentinels 13-1

The Shepherds lost to the Arroyo Seco Sentinels today by the score of 13-1. After starting 4-1, the Shepherds are now 4-4 with two more games to go on the road this week.   

The Shepherds tried to get the scoring started in the top of the first but Shane Poe was thrown out at home trying to score from second on a single to left. 

The Arroyo Seco Sentinels responded in the bottom of the second with four two-out runs to open the game strong. A two out triple and double both scored two runs to give the Sentinels their 4-0 lead heading into the third. 

The Sheps got one back in the top of the third as a wild pitch allowed Brandon Adams to score from third before the side was retired. 

The Sentinels score four more in the fourth after four walks two singles and an error as they took a commanding lead by the score of 8-1. 

They would score five more in the fifth as it was all sentinels in this game, extending their lead to 13-1. 

The Shepherds gave up a total of nine hits, eight walks and two HBP.

The game was cut short and ended after the seventh inning with the final score of 13-1, giving the Shepherds their third loss in a row after a three game winning streak. 

The Shepherds will try to end the losing streak tomorrow morning against the Ventura County Pirates at LA Valley College at 11 AM. Shepherds drop two in a row

The Shepherds lost to the East LA Dodgers by the score of 7-5 to bring their record down to 4-3 after two straight losses.

Andrew Lujan was seeing the ball well all game as he went 5-5 with four singles and a home run bringing his average to .429 on the year. 

Ritter Steinmann Came on in relief of starter Charlie Pierce and kept the Shepherds in the game, throwing five innings, allowing one run and striking out five. 

Andrew Lujan began the second inning with a blast over the right field fence to give the sheps the lead before three singles would extend the lead. Sam Rudd shot the RBI single into right to bring KJ Moo-Young in from third as the Sheps scored two in the second.

After a three pitch first inning by starting pitcher Charlie Pierce, The Sheps struggled to get out of the second throwing 41 pitches as the Dodgers scored five runs. After retiring the first five batters, the Dodgers got four hits, two errors and a walk, all with two outs to lead the game by a score of 5-2 going in the third inning. 

The Dodgers would add another in the third before three innings of scoreless ball took the sheps into the seventh inning down 6-2. 

The Shepherds would get one back in the seventh and two in the eighth as Shane Poe hit a double down the left field line before stealing third and scoring on a ground out to the shortstop in the seventh. 

Andrew Lujan got his fourth hit of the game in the eighth as he was brought around to score before KJ Moo-Young also scored on a throwing error by the shortstop to make the score 6-5 in the 8th. 

The Dodgers would stifle the comeback as they scored a run in the bottom half of the 8th and closed it out in the top of the ninth to end the game with the score of 7-5.

Sheps lose a tough one

The So-Cal Shepherds lost a tough one to the Inland Valley Pirates by the score of 11-4. This drops the Sheps record to 4-2 after two losses to these pirates on the year as the Pirates move to 6-2 in league play. 

The shepherds came out of the gate early playing ABC baseball, getting back to back singles to start the game before advancing on a wild pitch and eventually scoring one on a fielder's choice. 

The Pirates retaliated in the bottom of the inning as back to back two-out singles plated a runner from first to tie the game again at 1. 

The Shepherds continued to manufacture runs as Shane Poe earned a walk in the top of the third before Aaron Zubiate hit a double to move him over to third as Drew Salyers would hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Poe and put the Sheps back in the lead 2-1. 

Starting pitcher for the Sheps Andrew White was dealing on the mound as he sat down 8 consecutive batters between the third and fifth inning. 

After four scoreless innings for the Pirates, they found a way to break through in the sixth as an error and a double set up second and third with no outs. The tying run would score on a passed ball before a walk, double and two singles would score three more for the Pirates as a fourth was thrown out at home to give the Pirates a 5-2 lead. 

The Pirates would extend their lead in the next inning with four more runs after a bases loaded double and a single both scored two a piece as the Pirates went up by the score of 9-2. 

They would continue to pour it on in the bottom of the 8th with a two-run homerun to make the lead 9 and make the score 11-2. 

The Shepherds manufactured the two runs early but failed to get the bats going as they were held scoreless for five of the last six innings getting held to five hits the entire game while the Pirates bats woke up late as they ended up with 13 hits on the day. 

The Sheps would get two runs in the ninth to make the eventual final score 11-4.
