Sheps end skid with 4-2 win

BOX SCORE

The So-Cal Shepherds end their losing streak and win by the score of 4-2 against the Inland Valley Bucs. The win at Cal Poly Pomona brought the Sheps back to .500 on the year with a 5-5 record as they go into almost a week off of games going into camp this week.

The Shepherds wanted to end the skid that they've been in and showed that by scoring early. A walk and two doubles plated two in the top of the first as Aaron Zubiate shot a ball into the right-center field gap to earn the two RBI’s and put the Sheps up 2-0.

The lead was their first since the second inning of their Thursday game against the East LA Dodgers.

The Buccaneers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and threatened to tie the game but KJ Moo-Young threw out a runner at home from center field to keep the lead for the Shepherds with a 2-1 score.

The Sheps were caught up in their second straight pitchers duel as starting pitcher Andrew white went 5 innings, giving up five hits, one run with zero earned and four strikeouts. On the other side, Starting pitcher for the Bucs Anthony Silvas also threw five, only giving up the two runs in the first inning and striking out 8.

The Shepherds would find a way to extend their lead with a triple from Aaron Zubiate to score a runner from first before Brenden Coffindaffer hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1 in the sixth.

The Bucs responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Shepherd's lead down to two and make it a 4-2 ballgame with three innings left.

The Bucs threatened to tie it in the bottom of the ninth with runners on second and third with one out but Ritter Steinmann was able to get back-to-back outs to shut the door and end the game with a final score of 4-2.

The Shepherds will be back in action July 3rd against the East LA Dodgers at home at 4:00 PM.
