Sheps lose both of double header

BOX SCORE

The Shepherds lost both of a double header against the Arroyo Seco Sentinels, the first by the score of 5-4 before losing the second 9-0. This brings our record to 9-8 while dropping us to fourth in the standings behind the Inland Valley Pirates, Ventura County Bucs and the Arroyo Seco Sentinels.

Brenden Coffindaffer was the bright spot for the Sheps as he went 3-3 with a triple, double and a walk, falling a home run short of the cycle in the first game. He ended the day with four hits going 1-2 in the second game with a single.

The Sheps opened the scoring with an RBI single as Shane Poe drove in Aaron Zubiate’s lead-off walk before the Sentinels retired the Sheps in the first inning.

The Arroyo Seco Sentinels were able to tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double before a wild pitch allowed a runner to score, giving them the 2-1 lead.

Two walks and a single loaded the bases for the Shepherds in the second after Alex Laureano earned himself a single after an eight pitch at-bat with four foul balls. The Sheps were unable to capitalize on the opportunity as an infield fly, line-out and fly out left the runners stranded.

The Sentinels would extend their lead in the third with a two-run homerun over the right center field wall to make it a 4-1 game.

The Sheps would get one back as Brenden Coffindaffer would score on a sac fly after getting a lead-off triple and cutting the lead down to two.

The Sheps would continue the comeback as a walk and back-to-back doubles from Andrew Lujan and Brenden Coffindaffer tied the game at four in the top of the fifth.

The Sentinels would quickly retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth as an RBI single from the Sentinels scored a runner from second and re-gained them the lead before the Shepherds could end the inning.

That would end up being the final score as the Sentinels shut down the Sheps in the final two innings of game one to earn the 5-4 win.

Game 2

The Sentinels opened the scoring in game two with four in the first on three hits, a walk and two Shepherd errors.

The Sentinels poured it on as they got three more in the second inning after four more hits and a hit by pitch to break the game open and make it 7-0.

Arroyo Seco would continue to add on to their lead in the fourth with two runs and would go on to completely shut down the Sheps on their way to a 9-0 win and a sweep of the doubleheader.
