Sheps drop final regular season game

BOX SCORE

The Shepherds fall in their last game of the Regular season to the Inland Valley Pirates by the score of 15-5. The loss is the Sheps eighth in their last nine games as they head into the postseason on Tuesday as the fifth seed.

The Pirates got the scoring started in the first with a fielder's choice to score a run and give them the early 1-0 lead.

They continued to score in a big way in the second as seven crossed the plate to extend their lead to eight and take hold of the game. The First seven pirates reached base as they got six hits with two doubles and a walk in the inning to make it an 8-0 game.

The Sheps responded with two of their own in the top of the third after a Branden Coffindaffer RBI single and a Patrick Mclellan sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6 and make it an 8-2 game.

The Scoring affair would continue as each team would get another run in their next at bat to keep it a six run ballgame and make it 9-3.

Patrick McLellan would get the Sheps within four with a two-run Homer over the left field wall in the fifth to cut the deficit to four and get the Sheps back in the ballgame down 9-5.

The Pirates stymied the comeback as they got three more runs in the seventh with a two-RBI double and a sac fly to extend their lead back to seven and go up 12-5.

Three more in the eighth after an RBI double and a two-run home run solidified the win as the Pirates would close the game out the 15-5 win in the ninth.

The Sheps start their postseason journey on Tuesday against the East LA Dodgers at neutral sight Cal Poly Pomona.
