Sheps Season comes to an end

The Shepherd's season comes to an end in the third round of the Playoffs as they fall to the Inland Valley Pirates 5-1 after advancing to the round earlier in the day with a 5-3 win over the Arroyo Seco Sentinels. 

The Shepherds survived and advanced after another late comeback in the first game to keep their season alive after they beat the Arroyo Seco Sentinels 5-3, taking the lead in the eighth inning. The Sheps continued their playoff run after making the tournament as the last seed to get in, they knocked out two teams during their run and were one game away from the championship series. 

The Action started in game one with back-to-back singles to start the second inning from Drew Salyers and Brandon Adams, Charlie Pierce would hit another single to score the game's first run and give the Shepherds a 1-0 lead. 

The Sentinels retaliated quickly after as they got a two out, two run single to take the lead for themselves in the bottom of the second. 

After an error and a single in the top of the third, the Shepherds tied the ballgame at two after a wild pitch allowed Alex Laureano to score from third. 

The Sentinels took the lead right back after a single and a double in the bottom half of the inning to go back up 3-2 going into the fourth inning. 

After the third, the pitching from both teams settled as each of the next four innings were scoreless with one hit between the two teams after 12 hits in the first three innings. 

The Shepherds would end the drought in the eighth as two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for the Sheps before Andrew Lujan knocked in two and took back the lead with a two-out single. The Shepherds would add another after a wild throw on a stolen base attempt allowed Drew Salyers to score. 

Charlie Pierce would shut down the Sentinels in the ninth and finish his day with 3 ⅔ innings pitched, allowing two hits and no runs with two walks to earn the 5-3 win and get the Sheps within one win from the championship series over the weekend. 

Game 2

The Sheps struck first again in game two with a single from Drew Salyers to score Shane Poe from second base and give So-Cal the 1-0 lead in the top of the second as the Shepherds lead in each game this playoffs. 

The Pirates were shut out in the first three innings but broke through in the fourth with a bases loaded walk to tie the game before a sacrifice fly earned them the 2-1 lead in a game where runs seemed to be hard to come by.  

A two-out double for the Piratesin the sixth scored a runner from first and extended their lead to 3-1 as the game went into the final three innings as the Sheps opportunities to score were decreasing. 

A solo shot and a wild pitch would add two more  to the Pirates lead before the Inland Valley Pitching would continue to keep the Shepherds from scoring to earn the 5-1 win and end the Shepherds playoff run and season one game short of the Championship series.

Sheps fall to Ventura County 4-1

The Shepherds fell in a close one to the Ventura County Pirates in the second round of the playoffs by the score of 4-1. Clutch hits and runs were hard to come by as the Shepherds left 15 runners on base in the game. 

Each team threatened in the first with runners on third but neither could get a run across as the Sheps got the scoring started in the top of the second. After back to back singles to open the inning, Charlie Pierce would get a single before Rhett Stein earned a bases loaded walk to give the Sheps an early 1-0 lead. 

The Sheps threatened with bases loaded in the third and second and third with no outs in the fourth but were unable to capitalize as it was still a hard-fought 1-0 game going into the fifth. 

Ventura County was able to squeeze across a run with a single, a walk and another single in the fifth to tie the game and end the Shutout going into the sixth. 

The Pirates would continue their scoring in the sixth as they got three runs on three singles and two walks to take the lead for the first time in the game and make it a 4-1 game going into the seventh. 

The Pitching was lights out after the seventh as the Pirates were able to stymie the Shepherds and finish out the 4-1 win to move on to the next round.  

The Shepherds look to get back on track tomorrow in the consolation bracket against  the Arroyo Seco Sentinels at Cal Poly Pomona with first pitch coming at 11 AM. Sheps comeback keeps season alive

The Shepherd's heroic comeback keeps their season alive as they score nine runs in the final two innings to overcome the East LA Dodgers by the score of 13-10. 

Pitching dominated early in the game as the first three innings were all scoreless with three total hits between the two teams with five strikeouts.

The Sheps got the scoring started as Drew Salyers hit a bases Loaded double to score three before Alex Laureano would hit a single to drive him in and give the Shepherds a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning. 

The Dodgers retaliated in the bottom of the fifth in a similar way as they drove in three runs with a bases clearing triple before a single tied the game at four in the fifth. However, the Dodgers didn't stop there as another single would score another in the inning to give East LA a five run inning and the 5-4 lead. 

The Dodgers would get some insurance runs in the seventh as back-to-back doubles would score their sixth run of the game. The runner from second would come around to score on a fielder's choice and extend the East LA lead to three. 

The Dodgers weren’t done in the seventh as a three run home run would blow the game open and make it a 10-4 game. 

Raul Soto Romero hit a double in the bottom of the eighth to score a run before a sacrifice fly scored another to cut the lead and to trail by four. However, The Shepherds were not done in the eighth as another sac fly and two more singles would score another two runs and make it a 10-8 ballgame. 

The Comeback continued in the ninth as a single and three walks would score a run and load the bases with no outs and the Shepherds down one in the ninth. A single from Shane Poe would tie the game before Brenden Coffindaffer hit another single to give the Sheps the lead as the first six batters in the ninth all reached base. 

An error by the catcher allowed two more to score for the Shepherds as they scored nine in the last two innings after being down by six to take the lead and keep their season alive as they would go on to finish out the win. 

The Shepherds look to advance to the next round tomorrow against the number one seed Ventura county Pirates at Cal Poly Pomona with first pitch coming at 6 PM. Sheps drop final regular season game

The Shepherds fall in their last game of the Regular season to the Inland Valley Pirates by the score of 15-5. The loss is the Sheps eighth in their last nine games as they head into the postseason on Tuesday as the fifth seed. 

The Pirates got the scoring started in the first with a fielder's choice to score a run and give them the early 1-0 lead. 

They continued to score in a big way in the second as seven crossed the plate to extend their lead to eight and take hold of the game. The First seven pirates reached base as they got six hits with two doubles and a walk in the inning to make it an 8-0 game. 

The Sheps responded with two of their own in the top of the third after a Branden Coffindaffer RBI single and a Patrick Mclellan sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6 and make it an 8-2 game. 

The Scoring affair would continue as each team would get another run in their next at bat to keep it a six run ballgame and make it 9-3. 

Patrick McLellan would get the Sheps within four with a two-run Homer over the left field wall in the fifth to cut the deficit to four and get the Sheps back in the ballgame down 9-5. 

The Pirates stymied the comeback as they got three more runs in the seventh with a two-RBI double and a sac fly to extend their lead back to seven and go up 12-5.

Three more in the eighth after an RBI double and a two-run home run solidified the win as the Pirates would close the game out the 15-5 win in the ninth.

The Sheps start their postseason journey on Tuesday against the East LA Dodgers at neutral sight Cal Poly Pomona. Sheps lose to #1 seed VC Pirates

The Sheps fall to the league leading Ventura County Pirates by the score of 7-3. With the win, the Pirates clinched 1st place for the playoffs as the Shepherds are fighting for fourth place heading into the final game of the season. 

Brenden Coffindaffer started the second with a lead-off double before advancing to third and eventually home on two wild pitches to give the Sheps the lead. Joey Scotvold continued the scoring in the second as a single over the first baseman's head scored two and extended the lead to three. Four hits and a walk in the second gave the Sheps a 3-0 lead. 

A bases loaded single gets the Pirates on the board with a run before a fielder's choice scored another. A grand slam two batters later would flip the game on its head and give the pirates a six run inning and the 6-3 lead. 

After the second, the pitching took control as four straight scoreless innings were recorded after the nine run inning. Sam Mueller settled in for the Sheps after the crooked inning and got nine outs before Tomas Lopez relieved him. 

Lopez struck out the side in the sixth before giving up a run in the seventh striking out five batters in three innings. 

The Pirates would break the drought in the seventh with a two-out RBI single to score a runner from third and extend their lead to 4 and make it 7-3. 

The Pirates wouldn't allow a run for the eighth or ninth inning as they pitched seven straight scoreless innings and secured the win and the first seed.

Sheps lose tough one to East LA

The Shepherds fall to the East LA Dodgers by the score of 5-0 on Friday. The Dodger pitching staff pitched well allowing only three hits to the Shepherds, giving the Shepherds their third loss in a row and sith of their last seven games. 

The Dodgers got the scoring started early in the bottom half of the first inning as a double in the left center gap scored a runner from first before a sacrifice fly was able to drive in another for East LA as they scored two and captured the 2-0 lead. 

Pitching dominated after the early score as Ritter Steinmann would pitch three more innings, all scoreless, with six strikeouts. On the other side, between the two Dodger pitchers, they had eight strikeouts, two hits, six walks and no runs in six scorless innings. 

The Dodgers would break the four inning scoreless streak as they would extend their lead with three runs in the sixth inning off of an error, a double and two singles to make the score 5-0 heading into the final three innings. 

The Dodgers would go on to get an Insurence run in the eighth via a home run before they were able to finish off the 6-0 win in the ninth. The Shepherds struck out 12  times as the three Dodger pitchers pitched a combine shutout to lead their team to victory.

Sheps fall to Legends

The sheps fell to the Long Beach legends by the score of 5-2 on Wednesday. After winning five of six the Sheps have now lost five of six to drop their record below .500 to 10-11 with three games to go in the regular season. 

The legends loaded the bases before earning a bases loaded walk to open the scoring before a single up the middle plated two more to earn themselves a 3-0 lead after one. 

The Sheps were able to get the first three runners of the third inning on base but were only able to get one run on Rhett Stein’s sacrifice fly to center field to get the Shepherds on the board and make it 3-1, cutting the deficit to two. 

The Legends added another in the fifth to extend their lead again as a two out single was able to drive in the run from third and go up 4-1 going into the sixth. 

Long Beach would add another in the sixth as they started to pull away from the Shepherds with a two-out triple over the center fielder to score a runner from first and give his team a four run lead. 

The Sheps got one back in the eighth with a double from Brenden Coffindaffer before an RBI single from Drew Salyers brought him in to make it a 5-2 game. 

The Legends were able to withstand the Sheps and shut them down to finish off the 5-2 win.

Sheps split double header

The Shepherds split their home double header against the Long beach legends winning the first game 5-3 but losing the second by the score of 8-3. This moves the Sheps record to 10-10, still in the fourth spot in the standings. 

The Pitching dominated in the first game for the Sheps as Charlie Pierce started the game for the Sheps and threw six scoreless innings while striking out Six and throwing 112 Pitches. However, the Sheps couldn't get Peirce any run support early as they were held scoreless in the first three innings as they had four strikeouts themselves. 

Rhett Stein put an end to that with one swing of the bat as he hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to break the scoreless tie and give the Sheps the lead. The Sheps would add another before the inning would end as Alex Laureano would double down the line to score a runner from third and give the Shepherds a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth. 

Another two-run homer extended the lead as Drew Salyers sent one into the trees over the right field wall to give Charlie Pierce some insurance runs heading into the last inning with a 5-0 lead.  

Peirce got two outs in the last inning before giving up three runs as Cameron Kelly came in to finish the game and get the last out to earn his team a 5-3 win in game one of the double header. 

Game 2

The second game started with a bang as Aaron Zubiate hit his team leading third homer of the year and gave the Sheps an early 1-0 lead.

The Legends got their first run a little earlier as they tied the ball game with a home run of their own in the top of the fourth to even the score at one a piece. 

The Legends were not done in the fourth as they would get an RBI single to score a runner from second before another single scored two more to give them their first lead of the day and their fourth run in the inning to make it a 4-1 game. 

The Shepherds would fight back in the bottom of the inning as Rhett Stein hit his second home run of the day and the fifth homer between the two games as the ball was flying out of the yard, cutting the Legends lead to two. 

The Sheps weren’t done in the inning as they would load the bases before a called balk brought another runner home to make it 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth. 

The Legends answered right back with a solo and a three run homer in the fifth to make it back to back innings with four runs and extend their lead to 8-3.

The game would be called after the fifth and the Legends would pull out the win and split in the double header.

Sheps Comeback falls just short

The So-Cal Shepherds fell to the Inland Valley Bucs by the score of 11-10 on Sunday. A game that was once 11-0, the Shepherds fought all the way back scoring 10 unanswered but falling just short in the last inning to move their record to 9-9 on the season. 

Brenden Coffindaffer would continue to have a hot week as he goes 3-4 and has Seven hits in his last 11 at bats including three extra base hits, two runs and two RBIs.

The Inland Valley Bucs got the scoring started in the top of the first with a bases loaded double that cleared the bases and scored three before another double would score another run and make it 4-0 before the Sheps had a chance to bat. 

The Bucs would pour on to their lead in the third with a double and an RBI single before a two-run homerun to drive in three in the inning and extend their lead to seven. 

Another RBI single and a three run home run for the bucs would extend their lead and make it 11 scored for the bucs in the first five innings. 

The Sheps would get on the board in the bottom half of the fifth after a lead-off double from Andrew White came around to score after a wild pitch and a fielder's choice to make it 11-1.

The Sheps would not go out without a fight as they continued to cut the deficit down in the next inning. After three singles, a walk and three doubles from Shane Poe, Brenden Coffindaffer then Drew Salyers, the Shepherds scored five runs before the Bucs were able to record the first out in the bottom of the sixth. 

A single from Raul Soto Romero and a sacrifice fly from Sam Rudd helped the Sheps score two more before the inning was over and they scored seven in the inning and cut the deficit down to three to make it 11-8 going into the seventh. 

The Shepherds continued to climb their way back as doubles from Alex Laureano and Raul Soto Romero scored another and cut the lead down that was once 11 down to two as they entered the last inning down 11-9. 

Aaron Zubiate led the bottom of the ninth off with a lead-off homer off the top of the wall to bring the Shepherds within one.

The comeback would fall just short as the next three batters were retired as the Bucs were able to squeeze by with the win.

Sheps lose both of double header

The Shepherds lost both of a double header against the Arroyo Seco Sentinels, the first by the score of 5-4 before losing the second 9-0. This brings our record to 9-8 while dropping us to fourth in the standings behind the Inland Valley Pirates, Ventura County Bucs and the Arroyo Seco Sentinels. 

Brenden Coffindaffer was the bright spot for the Sheps as he went 3-3 with a triple, double and a walk, falling a home run short of the cycle in the first game. He ended the day with four hits going 1-2 in the second game with a single. 

The Sheps opened the scoring with an RBI single as Shane Poe drove in Aaron Zubiate’s lead-off walk before the Sentinels retired the Sheps in the first inning.

The Arroyo Seco Sentinels were able to tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double before a wild pitch allowed a runner to score, giving them the 2-1 lead. 

​​Two walks and a single loaded the bases for the Shepherds in the second after Alex Laureano earned himself a single after an eight pitch at-bat with four foul balls. The Sheps were unable to capitalize on the opportunity as an infield fly, line-out and fly out left the runners stranded.

The Sentinels would extend their lead in the third with a two-run homerun over the right center field wall to make it a 4-1 game. 

The Sheps would get one back as Brenden Coffindaffer would score on a sac fly after getting a lead-off triple and cutting the lead down to two. 

The Sheps would continue the comeback as a walk and back-to-back doubles from Andrew Lujan and Brenden Coffindaffer tied the game at four in the top of the fifth. 

The Sentinels would quickly retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth as an RBI single from the Sentinels scored a runner from second and re-gained them the lead before the Shepherds could end the inning.

That would end up being the final score as the Sentinels shut down the Sheps in the final two innings of game one to earn the 5-4 win. 

Game 2

The Sentinels opened the scoring in game two with four in the first on three hits, a walk and two Shepherd errors.

The Sentinels poured it on as they got three more in the second inning after four more hits and a hit by pitch to break the game open and make it 7-0.

Arroyo Seco would continue to add on to their lead in the fourth with two runs and would go on to completely shut down the Sheps on their way to a 9-0 win and a sweep of the doubleheader.
